Here are the Overall winners from both the march shoot in Las Cruces and The April Shoot in Artesia. (They are interchangeable!)

Tularosa
The Sweetheart shootout is in the books. We had great weather and a whole weekend of balloon blasting at Bryant's Arena in Tularosa. Special thanks go out to sponsors Copper Penny Ranch, Staley Veterinary Clinic, and Bryant Farms for making our awards possible. On Saturday night after the shooting was done and the potluck supper was consumed we had an "end of this year, beginning of next" meeting in the Sheriff's Posse meeting room which beat the heck out of meeting in the grand stands! Much was accomplished as the NMTCMS continues to grow and evolve. Vice President Jim Huff went over (word by word) the NMTCMS by-laws so that we could bring them up to date and get them approved by the membership in the interest of preparing to apply for non-profit status with the Infernal Revenue Circus. After some brief discussion and a rousing motion for acceptance by El Paso Bob- the by-laws were approved and once the proposed changes are complete they will be posted on the NMTCMS membership news page. Overall, if I might editorialize a bit, I thought this was the most productive NMTCMS meeting I have attended and the Ortegos, et al, were fantastic hosts!I think the membership can look forward to a great year ahead.
Carlsbad
The first shoot of the year is in the books as Judith and Charles Ortego, with lots of help from Shanna and the rest of the Carlsbad gang, put on a super balloon blast on the 14th and 15th of November at the Eddy County Sheriff Posse arena. The weather was decent and the facilties are real nice and as cliche as it is to say so "A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL..."
We had 20 some shooters on hand for the Membership Appreciation shoot which was free to NMTCMS members and we welcomed some new members as well as some familiar faces for the 6 stage shoot. The results are posted in the usual place.

President Dr. Paul Whitwam "prescribed" next years shoot schedule and explained that the linecamp concept where each individual club put on shoots and sent money to the NMTCMS has gone by the wayside as the state club is now capable of putting on shoots as a stand-alone entity. This brings up the need for match directors at each venue and I'm happy to report that folks jumped right up to take those duties on.

The by-laws discussion brought up the need to restructure the board of directors since we no longer have the ramrods from the 6 linecamps to serve as the board. Pres. Whitwam asked past presidents Clay Whaley and Donny Mac Dougall to serve as well as veteran members Hugh Bishop and Johnny Nelson to round out the board which includes Vice President Jim Huff and Secretary- Treasurer Pam Horner.
Mark Marley will be asked to serve as our direct liason to CMSA and Alan Eggleston remains our CMSA national advisory board member from the Southwest Region. Mark and Alan's input will be invaluable to us in the years to come.

The original presidential sucession procedure remains in place with V.P. Huff being Pres for 2011 and choosing a VP for next year who will then, in turn, take over the helm in 2012.
There was also some discussion regarding the selection of State Finals and End of Year awards and Donny MacDougal agreed to head an awards committe in 2010 in order to relieve the president of the entire decision making process. President Whitwam also pointed out that other board members will most likely be tasked to coordinate other areas of responsibilty such as Range Masters and Arena Management.

...and his "Pecos Valley Posse" did a bang up job hosting the 46 shooters from around the region that came to play.
Dan Byrd took top cowboy honors and Leith Bishop was Reserve, and Natalie Johnson took the Lady's title with Kathy Hollmann close behind for Reserve.
